Mayotte, a young administrative department of France, has embarked on a process of professionalizing those involved in social action. Okoni worked with UNCCAS (the French National Union of Communal Social Action Centers) to devise and lead a learning-by-doing approach to social innovation through design in Mayotte. The 17 communal social action centers on the island have launched five innovation projects on five key social action topics: professional integration, disability, food, properly providing for old age, and parenthood. Those projects are an opportunity for social workers to develop skills in designing and facilitating a social innovation process through design. New solutions should emerge from that process to address the considerable social challenges facing Mayotte.
Results (in progress):
- Five innovation projects initiated
- 30 local elected officials as sponsors
